Behind the Design: The Devil Wears Prada Floral Installation

When Forever Bloom was commissioned to design the floral installation for The Devil Wears Prada musical at London’s Dominion Theatre, the brief was clear: high fashion, red-carpet impact, and enduring visual drama. The installation needed to complement the bold aesthetic of the production while withstanding the demands of a busy West End theatre environment. Working exclusively with luxury silk florals, we created a statement design that delivers impact night after night — without compromise.

The creative brief

The creative direction drew heavily on the world of high fashion — confident, glamorous and unapologetically bold. The colour red, synonymous with both the production and couture culture, became the foundation of the design. The installation needed to feel luxurious and editorial, while seamlessly integrating into the theatre’s architecture.

Equally important was longevity. Unlike short-term floral styling, this installation was designed to remain visually striking for years, maintaining its form, colour and presence throughout the show’s run.

Designing for scale and longevity

Spanning 16 metres of staircases, the installation required careful planning and precision. Scale was essential — the florals needed to command attention without overwhelming the space.

We layered lush green foliage with red roses, orchids and complementary blooms, creating depth, movement and richness from every angle. Each element was selected not only for its beauty but also for its durability, ensuring the installation would remain flawless under constant lighting and daily foot traffic.

Why silk florals were essential

For theatre environments, silk florals offer a level of consistency and longevity that fresh flowers simply cannot provide. Temperature changes, lighting, heat and performance schedules demand materials that perform reliably.

By working exclusively with high-quality silk florals, we were able to deliver a sustainable, cost-effective solution that maintains its visual integrity for years — aligning perfectly with both operational needs and environmental considerations.
